Wanda Gillespie is an Australian / New Zealand contemporary artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand. Over the past decade she has refined her craft as a woodcarver through the creation of evocative portrait sculptures, combining detailed and abstracted, ancient and contemporary form.
Fascinated by the history of economics and diverse counting forms, the abacus has been a recurring theme in Gillespie’s practice. These delicate small sculptures have intricate moving parts and relate to her larger sculpture on the Brick Bay Sculpture Trail.
